THE MIDWIVES

THE MIDWIVES

EXODUS 1:15-21

15 The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, 16 “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” 17 The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. 18 Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”

19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”

20 So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

-          The Pharaoh that took over Egypt knew nothing about Joseph and the descendants, but he was aware of the presence the Israelites had in Egypt.

-          There were only 70 Israelites in Egypt initially from the 12 tribes

-          The Pharaoh was threatened by them

-          He felt like they could merge with the enemies of Egypt and then revolt against him

-          He called two Midwives who were assisting the Israelite woman to give birth to put an end to the growth of the generation and He instructed them to kill the boys

-          They didn’t do it because they feared God and God blessed them with families of their own for fearing him

God had a plan to grow the number of Israelites within Egypt and that plan would not be stopped whoever came against it.

The pharaoh tried to stop that from happening, but God appointed two midwives to ensure that His plan would still take place.

Earthly kings are no match for our King of kings. No earthly instruction will supersede a Kingdom plan. Soldiers and armies are no match for God’s people.

When God appoints, He equips, and He protects. We do not read about the midwives being killed. We do not see them executed for not carrying out the pharaoh’s instruction. Instead we read that they we given families of their own.

God blesses obedience. He will reward your discipline. He will smile upon you when you do not conform to the world. There are riches that await us who endure. There is a Heavenly anointing upon us who run our race till the very end.

We later read that Moses was the descendant of that very bloodline. Had God not appointed the midwives, we would not have seen Moses lead the Israelites out of Egypt. So too, God already has a plan for your life mapped out before you were even born. He knew He would use Moses in a mighty way. He knows how He will use us in a mighty way. We have a higher calling upon our lives and that calling came about before we were even born.

Heavenly Father, we say that you have a perfect plan and a purpose for our lives and no matter what revolts against that plan, we find your favour through Divine intervention. You strategically appoint people in our path to help us fulfil our Kingdom call.

Lord Jesus, we commit this day into your hands, we declare and decree that goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.

Amen.
